Race Recap: ETRL 2019 Round 6 – Most, Czech Republic
Post Race Analysis
The 6th and final round of the inaugural ETRL season wrapped up at Revelation Raceway in Montclair, CA. While the temps during the week had dropped pretty dramatically, race day still saw drivers battling 91° on the hot, bumpy asphalt. There was a welcome change, however - we did run the track in the opposite direction from previous races. That gave everyone an additional challenge - it was interesting to see who could learn the track (and surface) in enough time before the green flag dropped.
Spec Truck
A light turnout (only 7 drivers) meant a single qualifying heat and main, so that was good for those not wanting a long day in the hot sun. Something also interesting; the man headed to an inaugural win, Ken Gerberding, was absent from the roster. Ken had another race to go to (damn 1/5 scale stuff), leaving the door wide open for another competitor to take the overall Series win - if he could manage it.
Qualifying saw Mark Brown top the leaderboards, but not by much. Greg Monise and Chris Condon were both right there, but a few bobbles by both just put them out of contention for the top spot.
In the mains, it was all about Mark Brown. Not only was he setting blistering laps, he was the only one to consistently hit 38 laps runs; his 3rd main being a 39 lapper. He was also able to drop into the high 17-second lap times - pretty amazing for a Spec Truck! If this guys shows up to more races next season, he will definitely be the man to beat!
Finishing 2nd for the day was Greg Monise, however that was enough to topple Ken Gerberding's top spot (by only 5 points) to take the overall Series win. Greg played it smart - he didn't need to go for the win (and risk damaging his car) - he just needed to finish the day in a podium position. Congrats to Greg - hope to see you next Season!
Wrapping up the podium was Jason Markley. Jason is the owner of Pedals Bike Shop in Riverside, CA. He got the RC bug some time ago and now sells all kinds of RC stuff in his shop - including Euro Trucks! He might also be hosting a round of the ETRL next season out front of his shop. Looking forward to that! Even though Jason only made 2 races this Season, he finished 11th overall, just 5 points out of the Top 10.
Ricky Morales, good friend of Jason and avid biker, also showed up for some Euro Truck fun. Ricky only attended 2 races as well and tied Chris Condon (also only attending 2 races) with 573 points! So crazy how THAT happened! Even though they tied for the overall, the tie-breaker is the one how got the most points earliest in the Series - that would be Condon. I think we'll be seeing more of both next Season as well!
Coming in 6th for the day was Frank Liu. Frank has been focusing more on the Super Trucks, but did put in enough good runs in Spec to finish 4th overall. Great to see Frank out here - super competitive guy for sure.
Wrapping up the class was Frank Monise. Frank was doing well, however a last-race wheel failure dashed his chances of a higher finish. Good to see both of the Monises out here - hope to have them back next year!

Super Truck
The Super Truck class was quite light as well - only 6 drivers. This class was more of a promo thing to see if it would kick off. Not bad for the first Season, however there's a lot of guys building Super Trucks for next year. This class should grow quite quickly with some of the new rules coming online soon!
Qualifying saw Mark Brown, once again, picking up the top spot in this class. He truck really is amazing to watch - it has great steering, excellent rear grip and plenty of speed! He's agreed to give us his setup to help upcoming Super Truck drivers get a base-line setup. Qualifying 2nd was Tony Phalen, followed by Ed Bohon. With the reverse order starts, these three would have their work cutout getting to the front without causing all kinds of mayhem!
Ending the day in the top podium spot was, once again, Mark Brown. He won the first main quite easily, but a rough second main saw him take 2nd place to Tony Phalen. The final main was also a nail-biter - it came down to Mark and Tony rounding the last turn neck-and-neck with both hammering full throttle to make it to the finish line. Mark would take the win, but only by 2/10ths. This would give Mark the overall win for the day and Tony taking 2nd by a single point.
Ed Bohon had a great day, finishing 3rd overall. He also put on a great show in Race 3, keeping both Mark and Tony behind for quite some time. A mistake coming on to the straight let both of them by, but he continued his run to hang on to 3rd. Hopefully we see more of Ed next season as well.
Frank Liu went into this race with a 1 point deficit to Tony Phalen for the overall. Frank was going to have to have a great day in order to capture the top podium spot for the overall, but some truck troubles relegated him to 4th overall for the day. Even though this hurt his chances, he did keep enough points to finish 2nd overall! A great job in the inaugural Season. Hope to see him back next year!
Finishing 5th overall for the day was Jerermy Dee. Jerermy missed one round (taking 3 0s as his throwouts), but he did have enough points to finish 3rd overall. I wonder how it would have worked out if he had made all the races...
In 6th was James Johnson. James missed out on 3 races during the Season but, with the low turnout in Super Truck, still managed to finish 6th overall. A great job by James - hope to see him back next year as well!
